Arsenal v. Chelsea: stoppable force meets movable object

Alternate title: They’re droppin’ like flies to avoid the Emirates. Chelsea will arrive on Tuesday sans James, Mount, Koulibaly, Havertz, Broja, and Cucurella, meaning that Lithe Lampard—that is his nickname, right?—will only have about 37 players available to select from. Among those might be Aubameyang, but we’ve at least been spared another cringey “I’m back” video for whatever odd marketing reason. At any rate, he brings with him his stoppable force.

Bogey Banana & the Slippery Saints come to London!

At first glance, today’s clash should give us a chance to regain some of the momentum we had been riding after back-to-back 4-1 thrashings of Palace and Leeds. However, as we know all too well, we’ve followed those with back-to-back 2-2 draws. Even if we tell ourselves that we’re back home, where we boast an imperious if not perfect 12W 1D 1L record, and even if we see that Southampton are absolutely rock-bottom in the Prem, we should remind ourselves that they are still quite capable of impersonating a banana peel.

Of Hillsborough, hate-chants, and high stakes…

I know that it’s de riguer to hate on Liverpool, espcially as we’ve seen Liverpool’s recent spell of success come at our expense, with various hidings happening at their hand. Those of us who remember Liverpool’s dominance of the 70’s and 80’s might further fuel the fire…yet there’s a disturbing element to fans’ chants that I hope we earn a chance at spurning. Yes, I hope we can find a famous win or even a creditable draw. I just hope we don’t curdle the milk along the way.

Klopp’s conspiracy to deny Arsenal a Prem title…

After a losing 4-1 to Man City (a second consecutive loss after losing to Bournemouth), Jürgen Klopp rested Mohamed Salah, Virgin Van Djik, and Trent Alexander-Arnold for Liverpool’s midweek match against Chelsea. Needing a win to keep fading hopes of a top-four finish but resting key players? Keeping key players fresh ahead of a match against Arsenal? Clearly, Klopp’s move is a conspiracy with one goal: to deny us the Prem title.

Arteta faces MASSIVE selection dilemma against Liverpool!

Injuries to Saliba and Tomiyasu have thinned Arsenal’s defensive options somewhat, but the real dliemma Arteta faces before our Sunday trip to Anfield exists at the other end of the pitch. While Gabriel Jesus is an electrifying presence, January signing Leandro Trossard has been a revelation, his seven assists in 545 minutes second only to Bukayo Saka’s 10 in 2,444. This suggests that Trossard, had he joined this past summer, would have upward of 30 assists to date.
